The Friends Of All Saints Church, Wytham

Friends of All Saints’ - An Association For Those Who Love The Church & Its Place In The Community

The Friends of All Saints’ Wytham was set up in June 2006, with the aim of uniting all those who love and value the church of All Saints’ and its role as a hub within the community. The Friends endeavour to:

  • encourage the involvement of individuals from the wider community of Wytham, Wolvercote and the surrounding areas.

  • assist in the care and development of the church as a focal point of the village

  • assist in preserving the building and its contents for posterity and for active use by future generations.

For several years our main focus was to restore the roof of the church – a not inconsiderable challenge, this was completed in 2015– with huge thanks to our Friends group, many others in the local community and The Heritage Lottery Fund.

But the work cannot stop – our church building is over 200 years old and we need to continue to raise funds to improve the fabric of the building and the surroundings. Our next projects are slightly smaller than the roof, renewing of the chancel lighting and decorating inside the church but will still need your support!

Many local people and organisations already support our cause – Wytham Cricket Club, the Wytham Woods team, Wytham Village Hall committee, Wytham Village Stores, The White Hart of Wytham, to name but a few and without them we could not achieve many of the things we do – so a big thank to everyone who helps, we are truly very grateful for everything you do for us.

Some of our activities have included:

  • Rogation Sunday service followed by a walk around part of the parish boundary and an informal picnic-style lunch.

  • Forage & Feast, kindly supported by The Wilderness Pioneers, The White Hart of Wytham and Wytham Woods Team, where we were shown what we could eat (and what not to) in Wytham Woods, followed by a delicious lunch of foraged fare created by the chef at The White Hart of Wytham.

  • Raise The Roof - A special rock and roll night, with lively entertainment by local band The Crimps

  • Visits to places of interest, including to Christ Church, Coventry and Wells cathedrals, where we had a guided tour around each, followed by sung evensong, and to Althorp and Bletchley Park.

  • Oompah Band gathering and auction held at the FAI Farm.

  • We also support the Wolvercote & Wytham Festival each Summer - with a very popular concert in the Church as well as an Art & Craft Fair

  • Several formal and informal social get togethers, including cream teas and hot supper evenings in the church and ploughman’s lunches at FAI Farm after our annual Rogation Sunday walk.

We have a rolling programme of outings, and social events and are happy to take on board any ideas for more. Click here for up and coming events
As well as successfully raising money for the new roof, our fund raising efforts have already helped to:

  • Provide protective metal grilles fitted to the outside of our beautiful medieval stained glass windows

  • Repoint the churchyard wall

  • Install a servery and loo, enabling us to use All Saints’ for a greater variety of events.

New members are always welcome. The membership subscription is currently £5.00 per annum. If you are able to make use of 'Gift Aid', £5.00 is worth £6.25 to the Friends, at no additional cost to you. You can download an application form: Friends Of All Saints Application Form or pick up a copy in the Church.

Thank you for your interest!
